In short: The metrological inspection of a blood pressure monitor costs €11.00 net for manual devices and €13.50 net for digital devices; the safety inspection costs €17.50. The intervals are set by the Medical Device Operator Ordinance (MPBetreibV): the technical inspection (STK) is required at least every two years, accurate to the month, and the technical inspection (MTK) is required annually according to the deadlines specified in Annex 2. What deadline applies to your device? Safety inspections are due at least every two years and are carried out on a monthly basis; metrological inspections follow the deadlines specified in Annex 2 and are carried out on an annual basis. Safety technical inspections (STK)

We conduct the safety inspection (STK) of your medical devices (ECG, electrotherapy device, defibrillator, etc.) in accordance with Section 12 of the Medical Device Operator Ordinance (MPBetreibV). For emergency medical services and aid organizations, we have compiled the inspection requirements for each device: Equipment testing in the rescue service. You will then receive a corresponding test report and the associated test sticker for each tested device.

Electrical equipment testing (DGUV V3)

We conduct electrical equipment testing on your medical and non-medical practice equipment. For commercial businesses, DGUV Regulation 3 applies; for public institutions, the identical DGUV Regulation 4 applies. Municipal hospitals, state institutions, and government agencies fall under these four regulations. The testing procedure is the same in both cases; only the responsible accident insurance provider differs. Both regulations are titled "Electrical Systems and Equipment" and supersede the former BGV A3. Following the testing, you will receive a corresponding test report and the associated test sticker for each device tested.

Metrological controls (MTK – formerly: calibration)

We conduct metrological inspections (MTK) on your blood pressure monitors, ergometers, and audiometers in accordance with Section 15 of the Medical Device Operator Ordinance (MPBetreibV). The deadlines are specified in Annex 2 of the ordinance and expire at the end of the year: two years for non-invasive blood pressure monitors and pedal ergometers, and one year for tone and speech audiometers. Following the inspection, you will receive a corresponding test report and the associated inspection sticker for each device tested.

Metrological checks on thermometers

For thermometers, the deadline depends on the design. Annex 2, number 1.2 of the Medical Device Operator Ordinance We set a two-year warranty period for medical electrical thermometers and devices with replaceable temperature sensors, and one year for infrared radiation thermometers. We also test the infrared devices that have been introduced into practices and clinics since 2020.

We work independently of manufacturers and produce suitable mounts if a model requires its own. The following types of mounts are tested:

• Infrared radiation thermometer for measurement in the ear
• non-contact forehead thermometers
• Thermometer with permanently attached temperature sensor
• Thermometer with replaceable temperature probe
• Basal thermometer

In practice, we are familiar with, among others, the Braun ThermoScan and Braun No Touch + Touch series, Welch Allyn ThermoScan Pro 6000 and SureTemp, Covidien Genius 2 and Genius 3, Geratherm non-contact, Jumper JDP-FR202 and JDP-FR300, boso bosotherm, and Riester ri-thermo. For ear thermometers, please contact the manufacturer beforehand.

The measurement is carried out using a cavity radiator. DIN EN ISO 80601-2-56, Our reference thermometers are DAkkS calibrated. Each device receives a test report with a final evaluation and a test sticker indicating when the next inspection is due.

Metrological checks on blood pressure monitors

We conduct medical device testing for hospitals, emergency services, medical practices, and aid organizations – basically anywhere the Medical Device Operator Ordinance (MPBetreibV) requires a medical device test. We test aneroid and digital devices, both on the upper arm and wrist.

Manufacturers we work with regularly include Omron, boso, Medisana, aponorm, Hartmann tensoval, Beurer, Braun, Panasonic, Sanitas, Uebe, Visocor, Geratherm, Nais, AEG, Hestia and Medel.

If the inspection reveals a defect, we will use our small parts inventory and repair the device with original spare parts. You can send in your devices at any time without an appointment. We will arrange an on-site inspection at your premises beforehand.

Calculation example. A medical practice with ten digital blood pressure monitors and two ear thermometers pays 10 x €13.50 and 2 x €20.00, totaling €175.00 net. The blood pressure monitors are due for inspection every two years, the ear thermometers every year. If we find a defect during the inspection, you will receive a cost estimate before any repairs are carried out.

Repair of defective ultrasound probes

We repair defective ultrasound probes instead of replacing them.

Probe analysis detects hidden problems in time. This allows for repair or reprocessing before the analysis quality is lost or the probe becomes irreparable.

The repair is carried out by a partner company specializing in ultrasound probes. The service covers all standard and TEE probes. You will receive a cost estimate after the analysis and can then decide.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does the metrological testing of a blood pressure monitor cost?

€11.00 net for the manual device, €13.50 for the digital one. The price is per device and includes the test report and test sticker. If we find a defect, you will receive a cost estimate before the repair.

What are the differences between STK and MTK?

The safety inspection according to Section 12 of the Medical Device Operator Ordinance (MPBetreibV) verifies the device's safety. It is due at least every two years, calculated from the end of the month of commissioning or the last inspection. The metrological inspection according to Section 15 of the MPBetreibV verifies the device's accuracy; its deadlines are listed in Annex 2 and expire at the end of the year. A blood pressure monitor requires both inspections.

Does DGUV Regulation 3 or 4 apply to our house?

It depends on your accident insurance provider. Commercial enterprises fall under Regulation 3 and are covered by a trade association, while public institutions fall under Regulation 4 and are covered by an accident insurance fund. The two regulations are identical in content, and the auditing procedure is the same.

How often does a fever thermometer need to be checked for metrological accuracy?

It depends on the design. Annex 2 of the Medical Device Operator Ordinance (MPBetreibV) stipulates a two-year interval for medical electrothermometers and devices with replaceable temperature sensors, and one year for infrared radiation thermometers. Non-contact forehead thermometers and ear thermometers use infrared radiation and therefore require annual inspection.

Do I need to schedule an appointment for the exam?

You don't need to send devices in; you can send them anytime without prior arrangement. If you would like the testing to take place at your premises, we will arrange a date beforehand.

Who is liable if a deadline expires?

The Medical Device Operator Ordinance (MPBetreibV) obligates the operator, i.e., the clinic, practice, or facility. We perform and document the inspection; however, you remain responsible for meeting the deadlines. To ensure you don't miss any, register your devices under "My Account" and "My Devices."
