Assign temperature probe to patient monitors
In short: A temperature probe is determined by three pieces of information: the Standard series (YSI 400 or YSI 700), which design (skin surface or rectal) and the Patient group. The two YSI series are not interchangeable, even if the connector fits.
YSI 400 and YSI 700#
Most patient monitors require a probe from one of the two YSI series. The device specifies which one. A probe from the wrong series will give incorrect readings, even if it fits mechanically.

Design and patient group#
Each probe is available in two designs and two sizes. This combination results in four versions per device system.
- Skin surface probe: It is glued or attached to the outside and measures the surface temperature.
- Rectal probe: measures core body temperature, also available as an esophageal probe.
- Adults and pediatrics They differ in the diameter and length of the probe body.
Assigned by device manufacturer#
Where the manufacturer assigns its own part number, that is the most reliable indicator. Order based on that number, not the monitor name.

With Mindray, the part number is directly linked to the combination: 0011-30-37392 is the rectal probe for adults, 0011-30-37393 is the skin probe for adults, 0011-30-37394 and 0011-30-37395 are the pediatric versions.
Frequently Asked Questions#
- What is the difference between YSI 400 and YSI 700?
- There are two different standard series for the sensor. Which one your monitor requires is specified in the instruction manual or at the temperature input. The connectors may look the same, but the series are not interchangeable. If in doubt, please tell us your device type.
- How do I know whether I need a skin probe or a rectal probe?
- This depends on the measurement site. The skin probe is placed externally, while the rectal probe measures core body temperature. Both are available for adults and for pediatricians, with different diameters and lengths.
- Can I use a probe from a different manufacturer?
- If the standard series, connector type, and design match, then yes. That's why the YSI versions in our product range are designated with numbers like 401 or 709B: these indicate which original sensor they replace. For manufacturer-specific part numbers like 4329822, it's best to order accordingly.
- What cable lengths are available?
- For the Dräger and Siemens series, we stock lengths of 150 cm and 300 cm, identifiable by part numbers 4329822 and 5204669. For other systems, the length depends on the specific model.
- Are the probes reusable?
- The probes mentioned here are reusable and are reprocessed according to the manufacturer's instructions. Please refer to your device's instruction manual for reprocessing information.
- Do you carry probes for older monitors?
- Yes. The product range covers current systems as well as older series such as the Marquette 7000, GE Eagle, and the Spacelabs modules. Please specify the device type and, if available, the part number of your previous probe.
